“Syrian Refugee ‘Crisis’ or European Refugee Law in ‘Crisis’?” Prof. Dr. Zeynep Kıvılcım (Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, HU Berlin) 14.06.2017 // 17:00 (s.t.) – 18:30 // OEC 0.211
The EU-Turkey agreement on refugees is concluded on 18 March 2016. The agreement was designed to reduce the number of migrants crossing into Europe from Turkey, after more than a million people arrived in Europe in 2015, most reaching Greek islands by boat. The presentation will critically assess the EU-Turkey Refugee Deal. The aim is to discuss its legal basis as well as its conformity to EU’s obligations under international refugee rights conventions.
Prof. Dr. Zeynep Kıvılcım is Professor for public international law. She taught at Istanbul University from 2000 – 2016. Today, she teaches courses on gender, forced migration and the Syrian refugee “crisis” at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and Humboldt Universität zu Berlin.
The lecture will be delivered in English.
All those interested in the Social Sciences are welcome.
Alle sozialwissenschaftlich Interessierten sind herzlich eingeladen.
Veranstaltet von Studierenden des MA Diversitätsforschung und dem Institut für Diversitätsforschung.
